Today
begins Spring quarter! Are you as tired of winter as Mandy is in the
photo? Spring is a time for new beginnings, a chance to begin fresh! Take some
time to clean up your work area and file away all of those papers. Clean the
dust that settled on your books and desk. Start fresh.
Then I invite you to sit back and think about what you want
to do this quarter on your dissertation, what progress can you realistically
make? Let's lay out the quarter by the week and see what you can get done.
Week 1 (3/1-3/7)
Week 2 (3/8-3/14) daylight savings time begins on 3/8
Week 3 (3/15-3/21)
Week 4 (3/22-3/28)
Week 5 (3/29-4/4) Passover begins 4/4
Week 6 (4/5-4/11) Easter is on 4/5
Week 7 (4/12-4/18)
Week 8 (4/19-4/25)
Week 9 (4/26-5/2)
Week 10 (5/3-5/9)
Week 11 (5/10-5/16) Mother's day is 5/10
Begin by adding in times you know you will be busy (e.g.,
vacations, kids' spring break, etc.). Then for each week give yourself an
assignment (e.g., write 5 pages; complete procedure section). Add in some times
to submit your paper to your chair (or committee, etc.), for these mark off the
2 weeks they are allowed to take to return it- just in case. Give yourself an
assignment for these times that move beyond what you have sent in – maybe start
work on the next chapter, check for new literature in the library, etc. When
you have finished that, you should have a good plan for your quarter – and your
goal form for the quarter completed!
Next time, we will finish the resilience series with getting
social support. Do
you have an issue or a question that you would like me to discuss in a future
post? Send me an email with your ideas. leann.stadtlander@waldenu.edu
